THE COMMITMENT OF KALBE FARMA IN ESTABLISHING SUSTAINABILITY AND GENDER EQUALITY

No. 023/KFCP-DIR/PR/IV/22

Jakarta, April 7th, 2022. PT Kalbe Farma Tbk (Kalbe) is ready to commit in establishing the sustainability initiative, which includes the gender equality. In its establishment, Kalbe presents the TAS (Talk About Sustainability) program, aimed to build the sustainability culture in the Kalbe Group.

Sustainability is not a temporary work, since it requires a continuous joint effort from us, one of which is having a virtual gathering like this to discuss about sustainability and gender equality,” as stated by the President Director of PT Kalbe Farma Tbk, Vidjongtius, during the TAS activity.

He later explained, “Gender equality does not mean that we are either pro or anti-women, but rather we are sincerely conducting this activity together and equally. Such commitment will be continued through other events, because sustainability is a journey that encourages us to learn and commence improvement together.”

On the other hand, the sustainability established by Kalbe will also involve the environment. Climate change is an environmental condition topic that is important, and Kalbe is required to consider such problem. An internal initiative is established by placing solar panels in several new factories and conducting a better water treatment, among other things that Kalbe must establish for the environment.

We also need to discuss about improving health access, business etiquette, market governance mechanism, and risk management. All the sustainability initiatives, including the gender equality, are not just a lip service or a slogan for our way forward, but also through practices and implementations. In other words, what is our action plan?” said Vidjongtius.

The President Commisioner of PT Kalbe Farma Tbk, Irawati Setiady, stated that she was pleased with the Talk About Sustainability and Gender Equality which became a discussion topic around the world, especially since this activity was aligned with the commemoration of Kartini Day in April.

Ira furtherly stated, When it comes to gender, I think this is not specifically an issue for Kalbe and Indonesia generally could handle it better than any other countries. However, in the ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) context, the topic itself should be considered and I am pleased that it is being discussed here in Kalbe.”

Similar to Vidjongtius, Irawati Setiady emphasized her hopes that this activity would become a joint commitment for every Kalbe member, not just a lip service.

I would like to gather everyone, including the men, to encourage the establishment of gender equality in Kalbe. As human beings, I think that both men and women should complement each other. Each gender has their own strengths and weaknesses, therefore God created them to complement each other,” she explained.

Kalbe’s effort in establishing the gender equality will be proven through the companty’s capability to provide equal opportunities and women empowerment. Furthermore, Kalbe will improve several of its facilities, especially for women, such as establishing lactation rooms, sharing information through webinars about women’s health and products, and providing helth services for the society.

The commitment to establish the sustainability through gender equality is echoed through the signing of the Kalbe Group policy by Vidjongtius, which becomes a guideline for every member of Kalbe in establishing Kalbe SERASI (One Harmony, One Feeling, One Mission) for both women empowerment and gender equality.

For the TAS activity, the Head of Corporate Communications & Sustainability of Kalbe, Melina Karamoy, revealed Kalbe’s role in the world of sustainability both in national and global levels, including as both a member of IGCN (Indonesia Global Compact Network) and a representative of UNGC (United Nations Global Compact).

“Kalbe is often requested as a speaker in various Sustainability Events, both in Asia and global. In 2022, Kalbe signed a pledge for the Women Empowerment under UN Women, a G20 Empower Advocate of Indonesia the year before, and signed the Empower pledge for Gender Equality,” said Melina.

The Gender Equality Team of Kalbe Group has also arranged a framework of gender equality in Kalbe Group that consists of five main pillars, based on Kalbe’s sustainability strategy of Together We Heal the Nation”. Those pillars include implementing the gender equality policy in Kalbe groups and improving facilities for women, conducting Together We Heal the Nation (BSB) webinars with topics like women’s health, parenting, and Kartini Kalbe, planning an education and training program with gender equality topics, establishing a chain of supply and marketing, and establishing community activities.
