KALBE FARMA COMMEMORATES WORLD OSTEOPOROSIS DAY Take Action For Bone Health

Press Release No. 054/KFCP-DIR/PR/X/21

Jakarta, 9 October 2021 – PT Kalbe Farma Tbk (Kalbe) through Kalbe Ethical Customer Care (KECC) is hosting an online health education event in commemoration of the World Osteoporosis Day. The educational theme that was raised was "Take Action For Bone Health" with the resource person dr. Faisal Parlindungan, Sp.PD-KR – Rheumatology Consultant, who will discuss calcium, healthy bones & immunity during the pandemic and will be attended by approximately 250 people. In addition to health education, the participants will also do Zumba Gymnastics together, play games and door prizes. The commemoration of World Osteoporosis Day was held twice, namely in Jakarta today and in Yogyakarta on October 30 to provide health information and education to the Indonesian people about the role of calcium in bone health & immunity in the COVID-19 pandemic era. World Osteoporosis day is commemorated annually on October 20 worldwide.

“Kalbe is committed in improving health for a better life for all Indonesian people, one of which is by regularly providing health education events. In conjunction with the World Osteoporosis Day, we implore the community to maintain bone health as an effort to prevent osteoporosis and sustain bone health,” said Siswandi, Marketing General Manager of PT Kalbe Farma Tbk. "Kalbe Ethical Customer Care (KECC) routinely commemorates World Osteoporosis Day every year in several big cities, it is hoped that through this activity the public will gain knowledge about the role of calcium on bone health & immunity in the COVID-19 pandemic era," continued Siswandi.

“Osteoporosis is a hidden disease of bone loss or a silent disease because it is silent and often has no symptoms until the first fracture occurs. Finding osteoporosis can be done through a screening or Bone Mineral Density (BMD) checks,” said dr. Faisal Parlindungan, Sp.PD-KR – Rheumatology Consultant. There are many efforts that we can do to avoid osteoporosis in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, including consuming nutritious food, healthy lifestyle, exercising regularly, consuming supplements containing calcium, which can help maintain bone health and continue to follow health protocols," added dr. Faisal.

"Every person's daily calcium needs range from 800-1000 mg and can be obtained from the food consumed. However, this intake does not guarantee that the need for calcium in the body is sufficient,” said dr. Yulia Kowira, Senior Product Manager of PT Kalbe Farma Tbk. “Kalbe has various supplements that help maintain bone health and reduce osteoporosis such as Osfit, Prove-D and Mediflex. These supplements can be consumed daily, and are available in the Kalbe's e-commerce portal, Kalcare.com, and in pharmacies,” said dr. Yulia.

The Ministry of Health stated that all humans acquired the formation of bones during gestation period all the way to maturity and peak by 20 years of age. By 35 years of age, bone density will slowly decrease up to the age of 50 years. Women who have undergone menopause are more at risk of developing osteoporosis than men. This is due to the decreased levels of estrogen that has an important role in maintaining bone density. In addition, someone whose family members suffer from osteoporosis also has a higher risk of developing osteoporosis.

During the World Osteoporosis Day that is commemorated on every 20th of October, KECC conducted a range of activities among which are health education to the community through talk shows, games, door-prizes, virtual joint workouts, and motivational sessions as a momentum for the global campaign of importance of prevention, diagnosis, and treatments of osteoporosis and metabolic bone diseases.
