"Kalbe will continue to work relentlessly to realize its commitments to public health, especially towards a better quality of life for diabetes patients through this KlikDiabetes service which we are launching today," said dr. Michael Buyung Nugroho, E-Health Director of PT Kalbe Farma Tbk. "In this digital era, KlikDiabetes is expected to be a practical solution to help people with diabetes achieve a better quality of life, and provide them with an online personal assistant that not only keeps their health, diet & nutrition records but also serves as medication reminders as well as providing education and reliable information to enhance public understanding of how to prevent diabetes before it starts and how to keep diabetes under control," added dr. Michael.
"The Indonesian Medical Association (IDI) welcomes the presence of a digital companion platform for diabetes that provides education and information about diabetes. The Association hopes that Kalbe Diabetes Care, accessible through the KlikDiabetes app, would be able to help solve the problem of diabetes whose prevalence is quite high in Indonesia," said dr. Daeng M Faqih, SH., MH, Chairman of the National Executive Board of the Indonesian Medical Association. "Diabetes treatment requires a multidisciplinary and comprehensive approach. There are many different factors that need to be considered when treating diabetes such as medication adherence, blood sugar parameters, diet and nutrition regimen, the extent to which healthy lifestyle is practiced and the extent to which reliable, trustworthy information on diabetes is obtained," explained dr. Daeng.
"Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, preventive measures to avoid diabetes complications are still required to be taken if the patient's quality of life is to be improved. For this reason, ideal diabetes care is a must through lifestyle modification, balanced nutrition, and therapy that is oriented towards medication adherence and routine independent monitoring of blood sugar," said Prof. Dr. dr. Ketut Suastika Sp.PD-KEMD, Chairman of PB PERKENI. "Always bear in mind that in order for diabetes patients to improve their quality of life, it is crucial for them to keep implementing COVID-19 preventive health protocols, maintain healthy blood sugar levels, lead a healthy lifestyle, take medicines as recommended by doctors and immediately get vaccinated for COVID-19," added Prof. Dr. dr. Ketut Suastika Sp.PD-KEMD.
"The KlikDiabetes application comes with features that are tailored to the key aspects of diabetes management such as the medication reminder feature to enable patients to take medication correctly as prescribed by their doctors, the blood sugar parameters feature with health records, and other important aspects such as regular diet and nutrition, and healthy lifestyle," said dr. Fauzi Imam Sambodo of Kalbe Diabetes Care. "The KlikDiabetes application can be downloaded from the Google Play Store and the App Store. We hope that the app would help doctors, patients and caregivers in managing diabetes in a comprehensive and multidisciplinary manner so as to enhance the patient’s quality of life," concluded dr. Fauzi.
Prof. Dr. dr. Ketut wrote in his presentation that 25% to 34% of all ICU and non-ICU patients suffering COVID-19 from were diabetic patients. This shall come as no surprise, he said, because COVID-19 worsens glycemic control in stable diabetic patients. So, proper control of the levels of blood sugar may prevent complications and reduce the severity of COVID-19, he went on saying. Therefore, diabetics are advised to regularly control their blood sugar levels, monitor their blood sugar levels more frequently, maintain a balanced diet and nutritional intake, and keep physical exercise regularly and apply strict health protocols.
