The educational event is a part of the media webinar series with oral health as its subject to educate the general public of how to tell the differences between common thrush, manage and prevent common thrush that can also be the cause of oral cancer if not managed early.

“Kalbe is committed in improving health for a better life for all Indonesians by routinely holding health education events; one of which is on how to distinguish between common oral ulcers or thrush and oral cancer,” said Hari Nugroho, Head of External Communication & Stakeholder Relations of PT Kalbe Farma Tbk. “We hope that through these activities the general public will have the knowledge of safe treatment of thrush, know of natural thrush medications; as well as differentiating between common thrush and oral cancer," Hari continued.

“Thrush is not considered as a serious oral disease and deemed not dangerous, and the treatment is often overlooked.  Generally we ought to be able to differentiate common thrush with cancer, starting from the time of healing of the ulcer, level of pain, location of the ulcer, palpating the area around the ulcer as well as watching for color changes if there is a white or red spots inside the mouth," said dr.  Rusmawati, Sp.PM. "Several things that are symptoms of oral cancer are thrush that lasts for more than 1 month, pain within the insides of the mouth that does not heal, swelling on the chin area due to the swelling of the submandibular lymph nodes, the feeling of a lump in the throat that does not go away, difficulty of chewing and swallowing, loose or fallen tooth around the tumor, lump in the neck, decrease of weight, and foul smell," continued dr.  Rusmawati.

“In the treating thrush the principles to pay attention to are that we should treat the symptoms and medicate the cause, and therefore in medicating we ought to find the ideal thrush medication that is made of natural ingredients," said apt.  Vania Harista, Product Manager of PT Kalbe Farma Tbk. “Aloclair Plus is an ideal medication for thrush that is effectively creating a protective coating to reduce pain, having long-lasting effect, works quick, safe if ingested, safe active ingredients and good tolerability, does not cause irritation and pain, and simple to use.  Aloclair plus has 3 types of packaging to treat thrush in infants, children, and adults; i.e. Aloclair Plus Gel 8 mL, Aloclair Plus Spray 15 mL dan Aloclair Plus Mouthwash 60 mL,” Vania continued.

Aloclair contains Aloe Vera as anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, analgesic and wound dressings; Sodium Hyaluronate as tissue connector, moisturizer, and promotes healing of wounds; Glycyrrhetinic Acid that contains licorice root extracts as anti-inflammatory; and Polyvinylpyrrolidone that is a substance that is not absorbed by the body, FDA approved, and capable of forming a durable protective layer.

“In maintaining oral health, we can do it independently through the Sa-Mu-Ri (Self Oral Checks) movement that consists of several steps, i.e. wash hands thoroughly, stand in front of a mirror, check the top and bottom lips, check the upper and lower gums, check the right and left inner cheeks, check the top and bottom of the tongue, check the top and bottom cavity of the mouth, check the right and left sides of the tongue as well as checking the agility, stiffness, and the movement of the tongue,” added dr. Rusmawati.

Mouth cancer is still relatively rare in Indonesia. According to the Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) in 2018, there is a record of 5.6 percent from total cancer cases. However, it is estimated that there will be a 21.5 percent increase in year 2020 due to lack of early detection and ignored symptoms.
