Jakarta, September 26, 2020, PT Kalbe Farma Tbk (Kalbe) today through Kalbe Ethical Customer Care (KECC) to commemorate the International Seniors Day by organizing a health education event with the theme pf 'Seniors Stronger Than COVID-19'. Approximately 300 seniors participating online in the commemoration that follows a series of activities, among which are educational health talk show regarding fulfillment of nutrition on the elderly in order to remain healthy in the New Normal. Speakers in the educational event are dr. Lazuardhi Dwipa, Sp.PD-KGer; and Titiek Puspa, senior artist that implores the elderly to remain upbeat in the new normal era.
“Kalbe will continue to realize its commitment to the health of the community, one of which is for the senior citizens. Kalbe through KECC regularly commemorated the International Seniors Day every year,” Agnes Wiraraharja, Head of Kalbe Ethical Customer Care (KECC), PT Kalbe Farma Tbk. “We will continue to encourage the elderly to remain healthy and fit in carrying out their activities in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Seniors Day commemoration is held with the consideration that the risk faced by the elderly during the COVID-19 pandemic is higher than that of younger people, and that the elderly will not get bored at home when they are limited of their outdoor activities,” said Agnes.
“The elderly group is at risk of experiencing fatal effects if they are infected with COVID-19, especially if they have a history of chronic diseases. Methods that can be undertaken by the elderly during the new normal era are maintaining their health by washing their hands with soap, using masks, and maintain a physical distance when doing activities outside of the house, routine light workout, remain indoors and do activities at home as much as possible, limiting gatherings and outdoor activities, pay close attention to food and nutrition to remain nutritious and balanced in order to maintain the immunity of the elderly,” said dr. Lazuardhi Dwipa, Sp.PD-KGer.
The United Nations has determined October 1 as the International Day of Older Persons (IDOP) or International Seniors Day. This year is the 30th year of commemoration of IDOP and became a different moment with the previous years due to the COVID19 pandemic that struck nearly all countries in the world.
Based on the data of the COVID-19 Response Acceleration Task Force (covid.go.id), the age group with the highest mortality rate is that of the over-60 age group (seniors) at 44%, whereas the 46-59 age group is at 40%, and 31-45 age group is at 11.6%.
According to WHO (World Health Organization) standards, the Seniors age brackets has four levels: middle age, at 45-59 years old; elderly of 60-74 years old; (gold) seniors of 75-90 years old; and very old at over 90 years of age.
