Jakarta, July 18, 2019 - PT Kalbe Farma Tbk (Kalbe) has again launched the Kalbe Junior Scientist Award (KJSA) program, an award program for the best scientific works for elementary and secondary school students in Indonesia, for year 2019. The ninth year run of KJSA is different from the previous years, in which scientific works will be created to adapt to the use of digital technology under the theme of KJSA Goes Digital. The launch of KJSA 2019 is held in conjunction with discussions around digital technology and children's science projects. This is to stimulate the emergence of digital-based KJSA children's science works. In addition to the discussion, the other activities was the launch of KJSA's book “Creating for a Better Life: A Collection of Projects by Indonesian Youth Researchers”, a summary of selected travel notes of selected science projects from of the Kalbe Junior Scientist Award 2011 to 2018 youth researchers winners.
“The Kalbe Junior Scientist Award is part of Kalbe's commitment to continue to contribute to the development of science in Indonesia, especially in children. Through this science competition, we encourage children to be able to think creatively and solve problems in their environment through scientific approach. We believe that creativity is the root of innovation,” said Pre Agusta, Manufacturing Director of PT Kalbe Farma Tbk. “In 2019, in line with the digital era, KJSA seeks to adapt to existing changes. By carrying out the KJSA Goes Digital them, it is expected to be the first step in the introduction of digital-based science projects to children to answer the problems existing in their surroundings,” continued Pre Agusta.
“The jury will add the digital application criteria in every work of science in the KJSA 2019 judging process,” said Prof. Dr. Nurul Taufiqu Rochman, M.Eng, PhD, Chair of the 2019 KJSA Judges who is also the Head of the Physics Research Center of LIPI. “Therefore, we will carry out the companionship process of selected science projects prior to being presented before the Jury at the final judging,” said Nurul.
“The publication of KJSA book is looking to inspire Indonesian Children to never tire in pursuing their dreams and to provide benefit to many people through real work in the form of science,” said Melina Mariane Karamoy, Head of Corporate Communications & Sustainability at PT Kalbe Farma Tbk.
The KJSA requirements this year consist of elementary school students in grades 4-6 and junior grades 7-9 upon registration, and participation are individual basis. Sending scientific works according to the specified field. The submitted science project can take the form of ready-made projects or in the form of science project design that can be realized by the time of presentation. The fields being held in contests are of general science and applied technology. Participants register on behalf of institutions (schools) and clubs (guidance/courses). The project is a self-made project and has not won similar competitions at national levels
Socialization and registration for KJSA program participants will be held on 18 July 2019 until 18 September 2019. The selection process for the 20 Finalists (10 Elementary & 10 Junior High School Categories) will be conducted on 19 September 2019, followed by Mentoring from 20 September-10 October 2019. After the mentoring process is completed, 10 Finalists (5 Elementary Categories & 5 Junior High Categories) will be selected on 15 October 2019. The culmination of the events in the form of Exhibition, Judging and Awarding will be held on October 22-26, 2019.
The 2019 KJSA jury was Prof. Dr. Nurul Taufiqu Rochman, M.Eng., PhD (Head of Physics Research Center, LIPI), Retno Juni Rochmaningsih S.Sos (Head of Talent and Achievement, Students Subdirectorate, Directorate of Middle School Development. Directorate General of Basic Education Ministry of Education and Culture); M. Syachrial Annas (Director of PP IPTEK Kemristekdikti RI); Irzan Raditya (CEO & Co-Founder of Kata.ai); Onno W. Purbo, PhD (Information and Technology Expert).
After the selection process 10 winners consisting of 5 elementary schools and 5 junior high schools from the mentoring will be invited to Jakarta for the exhibition and final judging.
