Kalbe Supports Downstream-ing of Research in Indonesia

Yogyakarta, 7 May 2018 - PT Kalbe Farma Tbk (Kalbe) in collaboration with the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education of (Kemenristekdikti) the Republic of Indonesia, today launched the Ristekdikti-Kalbe Science Awards (RKSA) 2018, a program to develop research through granting research funds related to health, pharmaceutical, functional food, information technology, and life science. The launching of RKSA 2018 was held alongside with the discussion that holds the theme of "Downstream-ing Strategy for Research Results to Increase Public Health" at the University of Gadjah Mada.

“We need a harmonious synergy between all elements of the nation, specifically the academics, business, and government (ABG) to be able to compete as well as creating research results that has high and commercial value and beneficial for the general public," said Sie Djohan, Director of PT Kalbe Farma Tbk. “Kalbe believes that innovation and research is an important key for the nation's advancement, and Kalbe will continue to commit to develop science and technology as well as growing the innovative culture,” Sie Djohan continued.

The RKSA Discussion that was held in Yogyakarta will also take place in Jakarta and Surabaya, and is a part of the effort to build communications between Academics, Business, and the Government in developing researches, especially in downstream-ing research in order for its benefit to be able to be enjoyed by the general public. As known, there are several challenges for higher education in conducting researches up to the commercial level; among which are bureaucracy/regulation, limited funding, quality and dispersion of Human Resources (researchers), laboratory infrastructure and facilities.

The sources of the discussions are, among others, Ir. Prakoso, MM. – Secretary of DirGen Research and Development Reinforcement, Kemenristekdikti; Prof. dr. Amin Soebandrio, Ph.D, Sp.MK. - Director of Eijkman Molecular Biology Institution; Dra. Herawati, Apt., M.Biomed - Senior Expert for Pharmaceutical and Food Control BPOM of BPOM; Sie Djohan, Director PT Kalbe Farma Tbk with Pre Agusta - Director of Manufacture of PT Kalbe Farma Tbk as Moderator.

RKSA 2018 that has been held every two years by Kalbe since year 2008 is an appreciation program for researchers in Indonesia, and in 2018 the program is focused in research funding on health fields for Indonesian researchers. The health fields chosen consists of 3 categories, Category 1 in Pharma, biopharma, and stem cell; Category 2 in e-Health, Health Equipment and Diagnostics; and Category 3 in health food and drinks, product of natural ingredients. The total of research funding that will be granted to 3-5 chosen proposal is at the value of Rp 1.5 billion.

The selection of research proposal is divided into two: pre-proposal and proposal presentation. The judgment of the pre-proposal process will include the purpose of research, abstract, timeline, budget, and research levels. During the proposal presentation process, the researchers must present their proposals to cover the congruity with the pre-proposal, research details (background, method, hypotheses), expected result, budget and timeline details. The chosen proposal will then face a monitoring and evaluation during implementation.

The socialization and registration of the participants (pre-proposal) of the RKSA Program will start on 3 May 2018 up to 8 July 2018, where all participants must create an account in RKSA's website, complete their personal data forms, fill in the pre-proposal forms and upload soft copies of acknowledgment letter from their respective institutions and signed statement letters, et cetera.
