Jakarta, 4 February 2018 – PT Kalbe Farma Tbk (Kalbe) through Kalbe Ethical Customer Care (KECC) and Indonesia Cancer Care Community (ICCC) today commemorates the World Cancer Day. The World Cancer Day commemoration that is held at La Piazza Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta takes the theme of "We Can I Can, Be a Superhero." Approximately four hundred cancer patients, survivors, and observers were present in the event. The series of activities held are among which talk show with the themes of cancer, health check for blood pressure and blood glucose, as well as talent show entertainment.
“Kalbe will always present its commitment on public health in general, and cancer patients in particular. We will always encourage cancer patients to not lose hope and remain productive,” said Ridwan Ong, Marketing Director of PT Kalbe Farma Tbk. “This year's World Cancer Day's theme is a part of the themes of the three years period 0f 2016-2018, which are "We can. I Can" that attempts to reach out to the collective or individual public to run their respective roles with the purpose of reducing burdens caused by cancer.
The main event of the World Cancer Day commemoration which is held on every February 4 is the talk show with the theme of "Cancer and Effect of Lifestyle", with the speaker dr. Walta Gautama, Sp.B (K) Onk. - Oncology Surgeon Specialist of Mitra Kelapa Gading Hospital; Nyi Mas Diane Wulan, S.Psi – Psychologist; and Ita Yuda, a breast cancer survivor. Aside of the talk show, there will also be segments of zumba, entertainment, and door prize.
The threat of cancer in Indonesia is also increasing with the change of lifestyle of the population. According to World Cancer Prevention Organization and World Health Organization, it is predicted to be an increase of cancer by 300 percent by year 2030, and the majority of the case will happen in developing countries, including Indonesia.
Nationally, the prevalence of cancer for all ages of the Indonesian population of the year 2013 is at 1.4%, or approximated at 347,792 people. The highest cancer types suffered by Indonesian women are breast and cervical cancer. Whereas on men are lung and colorectal cancer. Based on the Data and Information Base of the Ministry of Health of Indonesia, through 2010-2013, breast cancer, cervical cancer, and lung cancer are the leading illnesses in Jakarta, and the new numbers of death caused by these cancers are constantly increasing. Kalbe Ethical Customer Care or KECC is a forum dedicated to providing information and education to the public about overall health.
KECC works to increase the awareness and concern of the public for their own health. In addition, the public is also encouraged to always identify the prevention and medication of diseases, especially chronic or degenerative diseases. In every activity, KECC also perform a variety of checks for the participants such as: bone density check, blood sugar, blood pressure, etc.
Indonesia Cancer Care Community (ICCC) at a glance
Indonesia Cancer Care Community (ICCC) is a community that was established on 27 February 2010. Established by cancer patients, survivors, and observers; ICCC has routine events such as cancer-related health seminars, visiting cancer patients in cancer wards at several hospitals, and outings that take place annually. In some of its events, ICCC is supported by KECC as its facilitator, specifically in cancer-related seminars.
