Jakarta, 18th April 2012 – PT Kalbe Farma Tbk (Kalbe) today kicked off the Kalbe Junior Scientist Award (KJSA) 2012 by holding an Education Seminar “The Practice of Children’s Science Creativity Development in Elementary School” at Peninsula Hotel, Jakarta. Promoting the theme “Innovation For A Better Life,” the KJSA event held for the second time since 2011 is purposed to nurturing Indonesian children’s love towards science from early age, thinking critically towards science and motivated to explore creativity in the form of a scientific invention.

“Kalbe is committed to nurturing Indonesian children’s love towards science from early age through the KJSA,” said Irawati Setiady, President Director for PT Kalbe Farma Tbk. “Seeing the children and teachers’ enthusiasm at last year’s event has driven us to hold this event again. We hope that in the future, the children who love science and technology will be able to promote and  raise our nation’s dignity to be a great nation equal to other developed nations in the world.”

“It is an honor for me to be chosen again as a jury in the annual KJSA event,” said Dr.L.T. Handoko, Chief Jury of the KJSA 2012. “This is the only science competition targetted for elementary school students. The potential number of participants is enormous, minding the large number of elementary school students in Indonesia.”

“The Kalbe Junior Scientist Award is meant to give an understanding amongst Indonesian children that science is not something to be feared, but rather, something that is fun, exciting and easy (edutainment),” said Widjanarko Lokadjaja, Head of Kalbe Science Award Committee. The categories being competed for awards are Mathematics, Natural Science (IPA) and Simple Applied Technology. This event is meant for elementary school children from grade IV to grade VI in a national scale. Registration starts on April 18th 2012 and closes on 25th June 2012. As many as 18 finalists will be invited to Jakarta to demonstrate their works to the juries who will then choose 9 winners whose works will be exhibited in the Junior Science Fair in Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) on 8-9 September 2012. The nine winners with their accompanying teachers will get the chance to visit the Singapore Science Center on 10th September 2012.

The Kalbe Junior Scientist Award 2012 panel of jury consists of experts in their fields such as Prof. Yohanes Surya, PhD (Director of Surya Institute Foundation), Dr. Karnadi, M.Si (Deacon of Universitas Negeri Jakarta, Faculty of Education), Dr. L. T. Handoko (PP-Fisika LIPI), Dr. Puspita Lisdiyanti (Researcher, LIPI), Dra. Mayke S. Tedjasapitra, M.Si (Psycholog and Lecturer in University of Indonesia, Faculty of Psychology).
