KALBE WON THE 2022 CORPORATE EMISSION REDUCTION & CALCULATION TRANSPARENCY AWARD

ARTIKEL No. 005/KFCP-CCOM/ART/IV/22

Jakarta, April 28th, 2022. PT Kalbe Farma Tbk (Kalbe) won an award from the Investor Magazine, in collaboration with PT Bumi Global Karbon. Kalbe received the Green title for the 2022 Corporate Emission Reduction Transparency category and the Gold title for the 2022 Corporate Emission Calculation Transparency category.

“We have established something regarding the emission, which was furtherly described in the 2020 Sustainability Report,” according to the Director of Finance & Acct. of PT Kalbe Farma Tbk, Bernadus Karmin Winata.

Kalbe received the Green title for the Corporate Emission Reduction Transparency award category in the Issuer Sector. In the category, Kalbe was considerably successful in uncovering the achievement and calculation of  the emission reduction, but there were no assurances or verifications from the independent third party regarding the calculation itself.

As for the energy saving, several Kalbe Factories were able to save the emission levels in order to decrease their residues. One of which was the Cikarang Kalbe factory, that established a condition-based maintenance to the chiller unit identified as the significant energy user, saving up the electrical energy for around 1,085,106 kWh/year.

“The Sanghiang Perkasa Factory has established the energy saving procedure in the compressor system by conducting its work synchronization to fullfil the needs, saving up the electrical energy for about 1,373 kWh/month in the process,” as stated by Bernadus Karmin.

He then added, “The Kalbe Morinaga Indonesia Factory also established the energy saving procedure by modifying the ice water machine with the compressor controller and replacing the Evaporator – Condensor with new, efficient models. Such modification was able to save up the electrical energy for about 28,664 kWh/month.”

The Kalbe Morinaga Factory has set up the VSD (Variable Speed Drive) device for pump motors on the chiller and in the waste water management installation. In total, they are saving up the electrical power up to 23,514 kWh/month.

As stated by Bernadus Karmin, “The Dankos Farma Factory also established the energy saving procedure by setting the temperature of the chiller in order to adjust the necessary cooling capacity of the room’s air conditioning system, saving up the electricity up to 321,265 kWh/month.”

In addition, both Green Machineries and Semi-Robotic Management established a criteria to select enviromentally-friendly machines and tools, that had lower energy and emission usages as well as longer utility cycle durations. Furthermore, operating new or revitalized types of machine was oriented in both tool less and semi-robotic application expansions.

On the other hand, Kalbe received the Gold title for the Corporate Emission Calculation Transparency category in the Issuer Sector for successfully revealing the two-scope emission calculation, but without any assurances or verifications from the independent third party regarding the calculation itself.

One matter regarding the emission source calculation is an emission load calculation system for production activities, based on the Technical Manual of the Baseline Greenhouse Gas Emission Calculation in the Energy-Based Sector, for Solar Fuel and CNG emission sources. The scope for this calculation consisted of production activities in the Cikarang Kalbe Factory, Kalbe Farma, Kalbe Morinaga Indonesia (KMI), Dankos Farma, SHP, and the Bintang Toedjoe Factory in Pulomas and Pulogadung.

Meanwhile, the assessment basis for the 2022 Corporate Emission Reduction and Calculation Transparency criteria was obtained through the 2020 Sustainability Report published in 2021.

In the first criteria, the obtained data consisted of corporate emission calculations from scopes 1, 2, and 3, as well as any emission reduction calculations revealed by the company. As for the second criteria, the BGK Foundation was also required to examine whether there were any assurance reports in that sustainability report that assured those calculations.
