Just One Shot
Indication
BROADCED® is indicated for severe infections and resistant cases of susceptible gram positive and gram negative bacterias:
1. Respiratory tract infections
2. Urinary tract infections
3. Gonorrheal infections
4. Bacterial septicemia
5. Bone and joint infections
6. Intra-abdominal infections
7. Skin infections
8. Peri-operative surgical prophylaxis. If considered there is a possibility or severe infection complication.
Contra Indication
BROADCED® is contraindicated in patients with known allergy to the cephalosporins class of antibiotics.
Warning
1. Before therapy with BROADCED® in instituted, careful inquiry should be made determine whether the patient has had previous hypersensitivity reactions to cephalosporins, penicillins or other drugs. This drug should be given cautiously to penicillin-sensitive patients. If an allergic reaction to BROADCED® occur, discontinue the drug.
2. Pregnancy: this drug should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed.
3. Nursing mothers: low concentrations of ceftriaxone are excreted in human milk. Caution should be exercised when BROADCED® is administered to a nursing woman.
Dosage
BROADCED® may be administered intramuscularly, intravenously, or a short infusion. No dosage adjustment is necessary for patients with impairment of renal or hepatic function. However, serum concentration should be monitored in patients with severe renal impairment and in patients with both renal and hepatic dysfunctions.
1. Adults and children over 12 years of age:
1 to 2 grams given once a day (or in equally divided doses twice a day) depending on the type and severity of the infection. The total daily dose should not exceed 4 grams. For uncomplicated gonococcal infections, 250 mg intramuscularly as a single dose.
2. Infants and children under 12 years of age:
For serious infections other than meningitis, 50 to 75 mg/kg daily (maximum of 2 gram per day) in equally divided doses every 12 hours. For meningitis, 100 mg /kg daily (maximum of 4 gram per day) in divided doses every 12 hours, with or without a loading dose of 75 mg/kg.
3. For preoperative use (surgical prophylaxis), a single dose of 1 gram administered ½ to 2 hours before surgery is recommended.
The reconstituted injections preparation is stable for 6 hours if kept below 30ºC or for 24 hours if refrigerated (below 8ºC).
