WOODS' Peppermint Expectorant Syrup

Woods' Peppermint Expectorant is apppropiate for productive cough, cough due to bronchitis or ephysema because it is formulated with combination of expectorant (guaiphenesin) and mucolytic (bromhexine HCl). Guaiphenesin works by stimulation of cilliary in the reespiratory tract in loosen phlegm and this bronchial and helps to decrease the viscosity of mucus. Bromhexine HCl is a mucolytic agent used in the treatment of respiratory disorders associated with viscid or excessive mucus. The dosage are 10 ml (2 teaspoons) 3 times a day for adults or children over 12 years and 5 ml (1 teaspoon) 3 times a day for children 6-12 years.

Composition

Each 5 ml contains (1 teaspoon) :

Bromhexine HCl 4 mg
Guaiphenesin 100 mg
Pharmacology
The effect of drug to the human body : Bromhexine HCl is a mucolytic agent used in the treatment of respiratory disorders associated with viscid or excessive mucus. Guaiphenesin is an expectorant and reported to reduce the viscosity of tenacious sputum.
Indication
Productive cough Cough due to bronchitis or emphysema
Contra Indication
Patient with a history of peptic ulceration. Patient with acute porphyria.
Warning
Special precaution is needed in GI ulceration patient, pregnancy and lactation. Guaiphenesin may produce a false-positive response for urinary 5-hydroxyindole-acetic acid (5-HIAA) and vanillylmandelic acid (VMA).
Adverse Reaction
The occasional adverse reaction is GI disturbance. And, the rare effects are allergic skin rashes and vomit.
Dosage
Adult and children over 12 years : 2 teaspoons (10 ml) three times a day Children 6-12 years : 1 teaspoons (5 ml) three times a day
