Allevyn

ALLEVYN Non-Adhesive & ALLEVYN Adhesive is sterile, highly absorbent hydrocellular foam dressing designed for use on moderate to highly exuding wounds.
The dressing has an advanced triple-layered construction, which allows facilitation of wound healing through responsive exudate management
Composition
ALLEVYN Non-Adhesive and ALLEVYN Non-Adhesive & ALLEVYN consists of 3 layers:
- The perforated wound contact layer allows even viscous exudate to pass into the dressing. The wound contact layer of ALLEVYN Adhesive is coated with a low allergy adhesive which is designed to adhere well to intact skin, but not to wounds.
- The hydrocellular core of the dressing absorbs and retains liquid in its microscopic structure.
- The breathable outer surface of the dressing allows excess moisture to evaporate away from the dressing.
Pharmacology
1.ALLEVYN provides the optimal wound environment for healing
Delivers superior fluid handling through increased breathability and rate of absorption. This optimises the wound environment, which leads to reduced risk of maceration and promotion of faster wound healing
2.Superior fluid handling through unique dressing construction
- Breathable polyurethane top film.
This allows the formation and maintenance of a moist wound environment at the wound surface, which helps prevent eschar formation.
Highly absorbent hydrocellular foam core.
Provides absorption capacity for up to 7 days. Foam is now modified to provide faster fluid uptake.
- Non-Adherent wound contact layer. ALLEVYN have a polyurethane wound contact layer which prevents adherence to a full range of wound types.
- Low allergy based adhesive (for ALLEVYN Adhesive), which adheres well to intact skin, will not stick to the wound and has a proven low risk of skin irritation.
3.Bacteriaproof / waterproof
The top film of ALLEVYN prevents strike through of excess exudate and provides an effective barrier to bacteria and minimises risk of cross-contamination..
4.ALLEVYN are soft and cushioning
Giving excellent patient comfort and protection and contributing to a pressure reduction protocol.
5.Unique profiled dressing design for enhanced patient comfort
ALLEVYN Adhesive has a profile cross-section narrowing to micro-thin edges. This ensures the dressing stays in place, reduces chance of leakage and dressing disturbance.
Indication
1. ALLEVYN is used for exudate absorption and the management of partial to full thickness wounds. Some typical wounds are: ulcers (venous, arterial, diabetic), pressure sores, infected wounds, malignant wounds, fungating ulcers, surgical wounds, donor sites, burns (1st and 2nd degree).
2. Creation and maintenance of a moist wound environment.
3. Provides physical separation between the wound and external environments to assist in preventing bacterial contamination of the wound.
Can be used in conjunction with INTRASITE Gel for necrotic or sloughy wounds.
Warning
1. Do not use any ALLEVYN product with oxidising agents such as hypochlorite solutions or hydrogen peroxide solutions, as these can break down the absorbent hydrocellular component of the dressing.
2. In common with all adhesive products, some cases of irritation and/or maceration of the skin surrounding the wound have been reported. It should be noted that inappropriate use or too frequent dressing changes, particularly in patients with fragile skin, can result in skin stripping.
3. Infrequently, cases of sensitivity to the dressing have been reported. If reddening or sensitization occurs, discontinue use and consult a healthcare professional.
4. ALLEVYN is not indicated for use on third degree burns.
Direction
ALLEVYN Non-Adhesive:
1. Select an appropriate dressing size. Choose a dressing to leave at least 1/2" margin around the wound.
2. Prepare and clean the skin surrounding the wound area by removing the excess moisture.
3. Peel open the paper pouch.
4. Apply with yellow non-adherent wound contact layer to the wound.
5. Secure with appropriate secondary dressing.
ALLEVYN Non-adhesive recommended for wounds surrounded by sensitive skin, such as venous ulcers. The lack of adhesive allows the use of the most suitable retention method, for example, tape onto intact skin, appropriate bandaging or a film dressing such as OPSITE Flexigrid.
ALLEVYN Adhesive:
1. Prepare and clean the skin surrounding the wound area by removing the excess moisture.
2. Start to remove the protector film handles and anchor the dressing over the wound.
3. Smooth the dressing over the wound, removing the remaining protector material. ensuring that the edges of the dressing are not wrinkled.
During the early stages of treatment, ALLEVYN should be inspected frequently. Dressings can be left in place for up to 7 days depending on the volume of exudates in accordance with local clinical protocol.
To remove the ALLEVYN Adhesive dressing, lift one corner and pull the dressing back on itself.
Stability
Store in a cool, dry place below 25°C. Keep away from sources of ignition and strong light sources.
