Octalbin
Albumin is transporter-protein which is effective to treat severe icterus
caused by haemolitic disease in neonatal. It has double-action therapy for
acute-hepatic failure patient since its capability to raise plasma-oncotic
pressure and bind excessive plasma bilirubin.
Octalbin is a human-serum albumin which may increase circulating blood
volume and used for shock-therapy following by bleeding, surgery, traumatic,
burnt, bacteremia, kidney failure, and cardiovascular collapse.
Composition
Each 100 ml Octalbin 20% contains Human Albumin 20 g
Each 100 ml Octalbin 25% contains Human Albumin 25 g
Indication
Restoration and maintenance of circulating blood volume, such as :
Hypoalbuminemia in wound or burnt, cirrhosis, or nephrosis condition
Cardiopulmonary bypass surgery
Haemolitic disease in neonatal
Contra Indication
Patients who are hypersensitive to Albumin and other component consisted in human albumin; cardiac failure; and severe anemia
Warning
Risk of hypervolaemia
Monitor electrolyte status
Not to be diluted with water for injection
Stop therapy in CV overload
Increased BP
Raised venous pressure & pulmonary oedema
Adverse Reaction
Hypotension; flush; urticaria; fever; and nausea may rarely occur
Dosage
Albumin dosage generally for :
- adults : 2 g per kg body weight for 24 hours
- children : 0,5 1 g per kg body weight.
Direction
Intravenously, Octalbin may or may not be diluted by normal saline or dextrose 5% before administration, or mixed with electrolyte solution in aseptic condition
Infusion-administered velocity are individualized dosage, but not more than 1 2 ml/minute, and for plasma-exchange indication is not more than 30 ml/minute
Before administration, it should be heated to room temperature, especially when its given in big volume
