Kalbe Commemorates World Hepatitis Day
Jakarta, 6 August 2017 – PT Kalbe Farma Tbk (Kalbe) through their Kalbe Ethical Customer Care (KECC) holds the health campaign on the importance of prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of hepatitis in conjunction with the World Hepatitis Day. The World Hepatitis Day commemoration that will be held at Aldevco Octagon Building, Jakarta, takes the theme of 'Elimination', in correspondence of the theme of the World Hepatitis Day 2017 that is proclaimed worldwide. Approximately two hundred participants that came from Hepatitis Care Communities are present in the commemoration.
“Kalbe will always embody its commitment to the health of the public, specifically to the sufferers of hepatitis,” said Natalia Erlan, Marketing Group Head of PT Kalbe Farma Tbk. “Through this event, we would like to increase the care of the people on hepatitis diseases, in order for them to prevent or manage symptoms of Hepatitis. This is in accordance to the Hepatitis Control programs that is being run by the government through the efforts of advocating, technical, and sharing general knowledge of Hepatitis to the public," Natalia continued.
The main event of the World Hepatitis Day commemoration that is held on every 28 July takes the theme of 'Lifestyle and Nutrition' with the speakers of Irsan Hasan, Sp.PD., KGEH, a Specialist of Gastroenterology & Hepatology of RSCM and dr. Sedya Dwisangka, M.Epid as the Chairperson of the Sub-Directorate of Hepatitis and Gastroenterology Infection of the Directorate of P2PML - Directorate of P2P, Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia. Aside of the talk shows, all of the participants can also participate in health checkups such as blood pressure, blood sugar, and body mass index.
As we all know that Hepatitis is a health bane for people all over the world, including in Indonesia, which includes Hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E. Hepatitis A and E, often appear as Extraordinary events, are transmitted through fecal oral and commonly related to Clean and Healthy Lifestyle, are acute and can be cured well. Whereas Hepatitis B, C and D (less-common) are transmitted parentally, can become chronic, and cause liver cirrhosis followed by cancer.
Hepatitis B virus has infected approximately 2 billion of people in the world, where 240 million of them became chronic Hepatitis B patients, whereas Hepatitis C sufferers in the whole world are estimated at 170 million people. Approximately 1.5 million of the world's population died yearly because of Hepatitis.
According to the Data Center of the Ministry of Health, in year 2013, it is approximated that there are 1.2% of Indonesian who has Hepatitis, and this condition is a 2 times increase compared to year 2007 at 0.6%. Converted to absolute numbers, in year 2013, where there are 248,422,956 populations, it can be approximated that as many as 2,981,075 Indonesian have gotten infected with Hepatitis.
