As we all know that Chronic Kidney Disease (PGK) or more commonly referred to as kidney failure is a long-term disease that takes years, progressive, and cannot be healed to prior conditions - or lifelong. Based on the epidemiology studies by the Indonesian Nephrology Association (Pernefri) that was conducted in 2005, it showed that as many as 12.5% of the population is living with chronic kidney disease. Based on Pernefri's data, up to year 2012, there are 100,000 patients that suffered from PGTA. International Data stated that 10% of the world's population suffer from chronic kidney illness and is predicted to increase up to 17% in the next decade. Chronic kidney illness has also been acknowledged by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a serious worldwide health issue.
The effects of kidney diseases are very significant for the socio-economic status of the sufferers and country, due to the expensive cost that it takes to care for the disease. As for year 2015 (data from BPJS to the 3rd quarter), there are 1.2 million kidney failure cases with the cost of Rp 1.6 trillion. Chronic Kidney Disease is at no. 2 after cardiac diseases as ailment with the highest cost that is covered by BPJS.
