THE ROLE OF PERMANENT SPLINT
IN PERIODONTAL CARE

Splint is a device used to stabi-
lize unstable teeth due to injury or
disease.
Splint can be temporary of
permanent, extracoronal or intra-
coronal. fixed or removable. Per-
manent splint includes fixed
bridge, removable partial pros-
thesis or resin composite filling.
Some data showed that per-
manent splint combined with
maintenance therapy can en
hance the recovery of periodon-
al fissue.

EFFECTS OF SMOKING ON ORAL
CAVITY

The literature related to the ef-
fects of tobacco smoking on the
oral cavity is reviewed. In this pa-
per, the review is restricted only to
the effects of smoking on oral mu-
cosa, oral bacteria, oral hygiene
and periodonhium. The elucidation
of those effects is presented where
the characterishics of tobacco
component are expounded previ-
ously. The other effects have been
well described elsewhere and be-
yond the scope of this literature
review.
