With the strategic and visionary measures that it has already carried out up to now, Kalbe has become one of just a few Indonesian companies that is fully prepared for the ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA) era. Kalbe is indeed ready to face the ASEAN pharmaceutical market harmonization in 2008.

Kalbe’s management made an extremely strategic decision in 2005 with its main objective to eliminate internal competition and create an atmosphere of cooperation and synergy. In addition to providing an opportunity for greater efficiency and effectiveness at Kalbe in the future, this strategy also resulted in a higher market capitalization value.

At the same time, this strategy created a group of companies that was truly integrated. Through this merger, Kalbe offered a much wider variety of products, ranging from medicines and health foods to supplements and energy drinks. In terms of functionality, Kalbe integrated its supply chain activities from procurement and manufacturing to sales and distribution. Through the merger, Kalbe’s market coverage became wider and the market penetration of Kalbe products reached even deeper into all areas of Indonesia.

Kalbe’s strategic business plans between now and 2015 may be termed its globalization stage. Kalbe wants to become a company that is the equivalent of a multi national company (MNC) with products that are ready for the future. For this, expansion has to be executed at least within this region. As we know, the market is a large scale area and thus, the company must obviously be capable of operating on a similar large scale. This was the basis for the decision to create the merger.

Even though the company has been in business for 40 years, there are still many goals that Kalbe wishes to achieve. Kalbe will never cease working for and serving the general public of Indonesia. Kalbe will continue to carry out innovative and persistent measures in order to realize its vision, to be dominant in the healthcare business in Indonesia and become a player in the global market with strong brands, enhanced by excellent management and cutting-edge technology.
